I liked twitter for the very reasons you give.... This whole conversation aspect of Jaiku is new to me and I haven't decided if I like it or not (although I am commenting on this!). What I like with Jaiku is the ability to pull all feeds of everything I blog/post/bookmark into one place. In a way it is like a tumblr-lite.

Great post. Another distinction, Twitter is opt in only, Jaiku has no ignore feature that I can see. I do like the ads on the side because it shows that they will have the money to put into scaling. Jaiku does also allow for making new friends easier and twitter seems to be the place for your core group only. Twitter is focused, Jaiku is rabbit trails. I think that they compliment each other nicely.

Christian, I don't understand your position. I only receive updates from people on my contact list, plus people who've replied to things I've replied to. If a conversation is getting annoying it's easy to remove the conversation from your feed ("Unsubscribe" link next to it).

Wait, I thought it had one. Looks like that's only for RSS feeds. Jaiku, if you're listening (I know you're listening), that'd be a great feature!

I agree re: the complemenaian nature of the beast: though remarkably similar, they serve different roles, and adding the second doesn't add that much time thanks to the dual posting tool...

I think the initial Twitter euphoria has died down, and now we are seeing the steady state of die hard microbloggers and real social presence addicts maintain and extend the capabilities. Things are as they should be. Once the hype dies, then the real interesting work begins. Jaiku has been around for a while and has a lot more features to it. For me Twitter embodies simplicity while Jaiku is complex but richer presence.
